UPPER WEST SIDE APARTMENT

Originally, this Upper West Side apartment was a warren of small rooms and smaller hallways. By merging the rooms and halls, we enlarged the spaces while improving the circulation.

A cramped kitchen, once walled off in the dark middle of the floor, emerges spacious and functional, with natural light now drawn from the living room.

The master bathroom is convertible: a run of sliding teak and ribbed glass doors close off the component functions. But when opened, they convert the various wet spaces into one big suite.

Perforated metal doors in the media room’s built-in bookcase hide the A/V equipment. The perf holes release heat and speaker audio, while admitting the IR remote signal.
