Upper West Side Apartment

Originally, this three-bedroom apartment was a warren of small rooms and smaller hallways.  By merging rooms and halls, the New York architects managed to enlarge the spaces while improving circulation.  A cramped kitchen once buried in the dark middle of the building emerges spacious and functional, while benefiting from the natural light of the living room.  And the master bathroom is convertible, thanks to a run of sliding teak and ribbed glass doors.  These doors can close off the component functions or open to convert them into one big suite.
