Carroll Gardens Townhouse
Though grand in scale, this house had been stripped of its period details. So the Brooklyn architects re-created the lost grandeur with a classic entablature at the front façade and an authentically curved stair inside. In contrast, the mod kitchen glows with a ceiling of backlit wood slats. These stripes of light boldly define the zones of the lofty parlor floor. And the architects further distinguished spaces using custom cabinetry. Some act as bounding walls for stairs. One as a back for a foyer bench. And one masks a stealth powder room. Two new ipê decks overlook the backyard and the Manhattan skyline.
